Prime Minister Conte: "The most difficult crisis the country is experiencing"
At the beginning of his speech, the Prime Minister defined the Coronavirus emergency as: “The most difficult crisis that the country has been experiencing since the Second World War. In these very hard days we are called to measure ourselves with images and news that hurt us and leave us a mark that will always remain etched in our memory even when this is over ". In his speech, the premier also underlined the drama of the emergency, which is causing deaths throughout Italy. “The death of many fellow citizens - he said - it is a pain that renews itself every day. These deaths, for us, for the values with which we grew up and which we still share today, are not mere numbers. What we cry are people, stories of families who lose their dearest loved ones ".
Prime Minister Conte: "We respect the rules"
The prime minister called on all citizens, once again, to respect the measures enacted since the beginning of the emergency. "We must continue to respect all the rules with patience, responsibility and trust": he pointed out. “But we have no alternatives. At this moment we must resist because only in this way will we be able to protect ourselves and the people we love ”. Conte also recalled how many, in these days, are committed to carrying out their activities to guarantee the services needed by the citizen in these times of serious emergency.
“Our sacrifice of stay at home it is minimal when compared to the sacrifice other citizens are making. In hospitals, in places that are crucial for the life of the country, there are those who risk much more. I am thinking in particular of doctors, nurses. But I also think of the Police and the Armed Forces, the men and women of the Civil Protection, the clerks, the road hauliers, the public service and information workers. Women and men who are simply not going to work. But they perform an act of great responsibility towards the nation every day. They perform an act of love towards the whole of Italy. Today we have decided to take another step ": he said.
Restrictions
In last night's speech, made live on Facebook, Conte announced the new restrictions. “The decision is to close, throughout the national territory, any production activity that is not extremely necessary. All supermarkets, all food and basic necessities shops will continue to remain open. So be careful: we have not foreseen any restrictions on the opening days of supermarkets ".
And, during his announcement, he again addressed the Italians: “I urge everyone to remain calm. There is no reason to go shopping, there is no reason to create queues that are not justified at the moment ": he recalled. Pharmacies and parapharmacies will also remain open. Banking, postal, insurance and financial services will continue to be insured. Essential public services will be ensured, such as transport and activities connected and functional to essential ones. “Outside of the activities deemed essential, - he explained again - we will only allow work to be carried out in smart - working mode and production activities relevant to national production ".
