The city of Trieste will host the opening ceremony of the 16th edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF 2023), the European Youth Winter Olympic Festival. From 21 to 28 January next, 8 days of competitions are scheduled for promising young athletes who will compete in the territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia and also in the neighboring countries of Austria (Spittal) and Slovenia (Planica). The EYOF, launched in 1990, is one of the major sporting events which registers, in each edition, the presence of numerous young and talented European athletes.
European Youth Winter Olympic Festival
On 21 January, in Piazza Unità d'Italia in Trieste, more than 2000 athletes and guests from 48 nations will parade. The big news of this 16th edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival is that it will be organized in an entire region and no longer in one location as in the past. All the mountain tourist resorts of Friuli Venezia Giulia will host the competitions of the various sporting disciplines envisaged, included in the official calendar. Competitions that will be the prologue ai Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games which will certainly be attended by some athletes of Eyof Friuli Venezia Giulia 2023. Further important news: all the delegations of the Olympic Committees will have Trieste as a reference and host headquarters.
The Olympic flag will fly on the Friuli Venezia Giulia offering young athletes, aged between 14 and 18, the experience of experiencing the great emotions that only such a sporting event can offer. The entire territory of Friuli Venezia Giulia, with neighboring Austria and Slovenia, will join forces to organize a European event without borders. The winter sports included in the program are: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross country, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing (slopestyle – big air). Ski cross, ice hockey, short track, ski jumping, skiing mountaineering, alpine and cross snowboarding, freestyle snowboarding (slopestyle – big air) and Nordic combined, spread over 12 competition venues.
