The Mauto, the National Automobile Museum of Turin celebrates the 90th anniversary of its birth with a program full of events. These include the exhibition "A story to the future", already underway and which will continue until 8 October. Founded on 19 July 1933, the director Mariella Mengozzi, who passed away a few weeks ago, also belongs to the history of the Mauto, to whom a room in the museum could be named. Currently the Mauto houses over 150 original cars of 80 different brands from the mid-800s.
A story to the future
The automobile, the vehicle that has marked the evolution of mankind, rises as a symbol of futurist ideas, relating to modernity and the technological progress. This creates a bridge between the past and the future. It frees itself from the singular figure of a machine to become a sculpture, a photograph, a mirror of the society and culture in which it is immersed. This is the basic concept from which the exhibition was born: “A story to the future”, a testimony that contains the history of the Mauto and the automobile through a guided tour through the different historical eras.
The Mauto
From 15 to 23 July, a review held in the symbolic places of the city collects the multidisciplinary approaches to the automobile and illustrates their transversal nature. Talks, screenings, educational workshops and exhibitions enrich a celebratory journey that will reach its climax on Wednesday 19 July with the Millemiglia of ideas. It is a marathon of meetings and talks, testimonials and proposals on the history and future of the automobile, on the museum as a place of memory and a laboratory for experimentation. Followed by a parade of vintage cars, opened by the most precious ones from the Mauto collection and organized in collaboration with ACI Turin.
The parade will enliven the streets of the center from San Carlos square up to the headquarters of Corso Unità d'Italia where the festivities close with a concert by the soloists of Royal Ensemble. On the weekend of 22 and 23 July there are guided tours with free admission. Benedetto Camerana, president of the Mauto underlines: “The exhibition celebrates 90 years of history of the museum, an extraordinary and unique story in the world in the culture of the automobile. The thought immediately goes to Mariella Mengozzi, which is now a part of the history of the Mauto and which until a few days ago traced its lucidity and enthusiasm future. In the week of July 19, the day of the foundation, our automobile culture will spread throughout the city accompanied by some of the most legendary historical models of the museum reality".
