Rome. Silent beauty. This is the title of the Capitoline exhibition which exhibits images of a solitary and silent capital during the harsh period of the lockdown. The squares and streets of Rome and its statues are presented in a new light, and make us discover a deserted city where 'silence speaks' and takes us on a fascinating journey.

Palazzo Venezia in Rome lights up with the projection of images from the exhibition “Roma. Silent beauty” on the facade of the Institute building VIVE – Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia. The exhibition is sponsored by the Municipality of Rome, promoted by Webuild and Vive with free admission from 20 January to 28 February 2023 in the Zanardelli room of the Vittoriano. Videomapping alternates a selection of unpublished photos of the capital with plays of light, dressing Palazzo Venezia in special effects from 18.30pm to 23.30pm. The screenings and the exhibition are part of the overall project “Roma. silent beauty”, which offers photos taken in the harsh months of the pandemic that broke out in 2020.
The visual show projected onto Palazzo Venezia therefore anticipates the opening of the exhibition by a few days in which the visitor will be able to make an emotional and intellectual journey through the streets, bridges, squares of an unprecedented and never seen before Rome, during the months of lockdown during the Covid19 pandemic. A city immersed in unexpected silence, which allows you to rediscover the magic of a unique city, thanks to photos, videos and multimedia projections. From Venice plaza, city center, a Sant'Angelo castel, bulwark of the military defense of the Catholic Church, until Piazza del Popolo, masterpiece of architecture and urban planning. From the ancient Rome of the Palatine hill to Eur, the images tell the story of uninhabited Rome through comparisons of different eras and different architectures.
Lockdown amarcord
The photos invite the viewer to take a journey through space and time, and become material for investigation, study and comparison. The aim of the project is in fact the promotion of a constructive debate on issues related to a new concept of livable city, urban planning and sustainable mobility. And on the possible future paradigms of urban living. This, to transform the experience of the pandemic into an opportunity to restart from the needs of the communities to rethink cities from a new perspective of sustainability. The initiative intends to promote a reflection on a more human-scale city model and on infrastructures, such as the Metro C under construction, which can relaunch Rome. This is also in light of the international initiatives that the city will host in the coming years.
