Ricotta is a dairy product obtained from the coagulation of whey. This process occurs with the heating of the whey, which reaches 90 °. It is a light product, and therefore it is ideal for those who want to lose a few pounds. Calories, on the other hand, increase when it is used for other uses. It is not suitable for those who are lactose intolerant. There are different types of ricotta. There are those from cow, sheep, goat and buffalo milk; while it is defined salty if you add salt for preservation and then let it dry.

Ricotta cake: which ingredients to use?

These are the ingredients necessary for the realization of the recipe: 200 grams of flour 00; 150 grams of sugar; 100 grams of butter; 4 eggs; 1 glass of milk; 150 grams of cow's milk ricotta; 1 sachet of baking powder; powdered sugar to sprinkle on top of the cake.

Ricotta cake: which procedure to follow?

First, take the eggs, separate the egg whites from the yolks, and place them in two different containers. Then start whipping the egg whites; add the egg yolks while continuing to mix the mixture. Next, add the sugar, taking care to keep mixing everything. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over low heat and then add it to the dough.

Slowly, add the 00 flour and the ricotta, continuing to mix in order to obtain a smooth and soft mixture. Finally, add the sachet of baking powder and continue stirring until your mixture is free of lumps. Put everything in a previously greased and floured cake pan. Bake at 170 degrees for about 35 minutes.

The toothpick test

If you have any doubts about the actual cooking of your cake, do the toothpick test. Put one in the cake: if it's clean, then it's cooked perfectly. If not, it will take a few more minutes to finish cooking. As soon as your dessert is ready, take it out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve your cake on a serving dish by adding icing sugar on top. We just have to wish you a good appetite!
