Red Notice was released in Italy on November 12, 2021 and it is already a real phenomenon as far as Netflix productions are concerned. It is the most expensive film ever made by the streaming platform, perhaps also due to the many locations. Filming was done in different countries, including Italy. Our country has chosen two regions to be the backdrop to the adventures of Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds. Here are what places we talk about.
Red Notice in Italy
The production took eight days of filming to shoot in Lazio and Sardinia. Eyes on Rome, in the first case, where the director Rawson Marshall Thurber he believed he could not set foot. The health emergency had in fact forced to cancel the travel program in the Bel Paese, then everything changed again.
Unfortunately, the Roman shoot was limited by all of this, with The Rock revealing to fans what it was like recreated part of Sant'Angelo castel in the United States, in Atlanta, to be able to shoot some scenes. In this portion of the capital we are witnessing the flight of Booth, which should have lasted a long time. Daring scenes in the Roman hills, reaching Frascati.
A compromise was therefore reached, mixing shots in the US with those in Italy, albeit limited. Although Rome appears very early in the film, its scenes were shot towards the end of production. Definitely more "serene" filming in Sardinia, considering the immersion in nature by the cast and crew. Several scenes shot in this earthly paradise, including a decidedly revealing one at the end of the film. Some scenes were also shot in Paris but most of the film is based in the studios of Atlanta, Georgia. In fact, the itinerant project was canceled, which would have brought all the protagonists to Indonesia, France, Germany, Spain, Russia and, of course, Italy. A remarkably limited tour.
Shooting with drones
In the period spent in our country, the production of Red Notice was able to take advantage of the extraordinary skills of Italian technicians. David Puppets of the Drone Aresso company participated in the shooting, sharing their experience. He signed the opening scene with his drones, the one shot in Castel Sant'Angelo. The same goes for the finale in Sardinia.
The Red Notice director's request had been very specific. He wanted to shoot with Panavision anamorphic optics: “These are unique pieces. - explained Mariottini - They are no longer for sale and are handmade. Their value is inestimable. For us it was a huge load of responsibility, which however gave us very strong emotions ". To complete the shooting with drones was then a great American talent, Johnny Schaer, who used racing drones with magnificent effects.
Red Notice, plot and cast
John Hartley is an FBI agent. A well-known profiler sent to Rome to prevent the theft of a precious Cleopatra's egg (one of three). The thief intent on stealing it is Nolan Booth, the second most wanted art thief in the world. In first place is the Bishop, responsible for the call to the FBI and Interpol, which complicated the plans of the colleague. Between incredible escapes, arrests, escapes and thefts, Hartley will find himself forced to collaborate with Booth, so that he can stop the Bishop's plan and arrest her once and for all.
