Ezio Bosso, conductor, composer, pianist and much much more, left us last night, he was forty-eight years old.
News that you know you have to expect, one that you have prepared for.
But then when it arrives it makes you understand that you were not prepared at all. And you feel that something is breaking inside you.
This was Ezio's strength. È the strength of Ezio. But maybe force it's not the right word, it's something you can't describe well. Something that cannot be put into words. But maybe in music yes.
Conductor, composer, pianist, but much much more.
In Sanremo in 2016 you enchanted those who did not know you, you played Following a bird and you brought out something we didn't expect - not from you, from us.
They made fun of you for your shaggy head, for that thing inside that quivered to come out and made you tremble.
It was art, beauty, you had too much and wanted to come out.
"Being light, making fun of yourself", you said "is a serious matter."
And then, seriously, the smile never left your face.
Always.
When you were directing The London Strings, when you paid homage to Abbado with yours Europe Philharmonic Orchestra, when you collected the Flaiano prizes, the David di Donatello (prizes that are nothing compared to what you have awarded us) and when you went to the European parliament to say 'We who have dedicated our lives to music from an early age frequent German-Austrian like Beethoven, or French like Debussy, or Germans like Brahms and Mendelssohn. You see, there is no border. Music is not just a language but a transcendence, which is what takes us further', always, in every moment, under the tangle of your hair there was that obstinate smile.
But even more than stubborn that smile has always been disarming. Because you could see it very well, even a child understood it, who despite everything, despite what slowly ate you inside, was a damn sincere smile. All time.
This is what I mean when I refer to yours force what a force it is not, but something infinitely greater. The fact is that you were happy Ezio. You were really happy. And always, on every occasion, of boundless beauty. That will never cease to miss us.
See you soon Maestro.
