The MuViG was inaugurated on 10 December in Canaro (RO), the Virtual Museum of Garofalo. An exhibition space where the most significant works of Benvenuto Tisi da Garofalo, an artist also celebrated by Vasari, are virtually collected.
This is the first virtual museum in Italy entirely dedicated to painting. A place where art and technology come together to create a unique experience.

MuViG: between projectors, virtual books and 3D reconstructions

Designed by Olivieri Office, the MuViG is located inside what was once the home of Garofalo himself. Inside it is possible, thanks to an agreement with over 40 museums, to admire the artist's works scattered all over the world. From the Louvre in Paris to the British Museum in London, passing through the Art Institute of Chicago, the Uffizi in Florence and many others.
But how does it work? Thanks to the latest generation projectors, detailed 3D reconstructions, interactive interfaces and virtual books. The experience offered to the visitor is 360 °. We will have the sensation of finding ourselves in front of all the works even if they are hundreds or thousands of kilometers away. And there will be Social Networks, with the ability to share your experience directly on the web thanks to technology Beacon (Bluetooth Low Energy).
The only painting actually present is The prayer of the garden, on loan from a private individual and flagship of the museum.

Museum and technology

MuViG is the first virtual museum in Italy, but not the first attempt to link technology and culture. For years, in fact, cutting-edge systems have been experimented in the world of the museum. From interactive smartphone apps to immersive 3D tours. If we imagine the insiders in the museum field as nostalgic old men linked to the simple caption, we are very wrong. Those who take care of the set-ups are well aware of the influence that technology has in everyday life. And it is their intention to exploit it as much as possible, also involving very large companies. An example is the restoration of the Galleria dell'Accademia in Venice. A project wanted by MiBACT which saw the participation of Samsung as a co-financier. The Korean giant oversaw the technological section of the exhibition, creating a real multimedia journey into Venetian art of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
