A real pasture, a cable car, a village literally hanging by a thread, ancient houses, hidden meanders. Are in the province of Varese, in the village of Monteviasco, part of the municipality of Curiglia. Monteviasco connects, metaphorically speaking, the colors of the forest to the blue ones of the sky, creating a landscape mix worthy of the best television films. A sort of "living" painting that exudes architectural culture and legend.

Once upon a time there was Monteviasco

One of the many singularities of this village is certainly the road to reach it. In fact, one of the ways, in reality there are only two, to be able to climb up to Monteviasco is through the use of a cable car, of about one kilometer. For the more daring it is also possible to walk the path of the steps, over 1000, which characterize this Italian reality of rare scenic beauty. After a climb, with our virtual journey in search of the beauties of the country, we reach a paved road, worthy of the best known tales of the Grimm brothers. The stone houses, the wooden balconies and the mountain streets make the show “authentic”. Different ravines of the place attract the visitor's gaze, corners to photograph that recall a history of the past projected into the future.

Between history and legend

In these territories, there are traces dating back to the prehistoric era. These historical notions are easily accessible thanks to various rock graffiti present in these villages. Instead, some of the most recent discoveries of archaeological finds date back to the Bronze Age. A legend, strongly rooted in the hamlet, tells the vicissitudes of 4 brigands, who sought shelter in this territory by bringing young girls kidnapped from a nearby village. The geographical position of Monteviasco is located close to the border line between Italy and Switzerland, thus obtaining a mixture of buildings between two countries.

What to see in Monteviasco

The narrow streets are certainly one of the most interesting and evocative features of the village. These "alleys" wisely built by local workers, with a strong presence of stones, masterfully set, make the atmosphere fairytale. The many visitors photograph, every day, this small nativity scene of today. The path with over 1000 steps, remember that at the beginning there were 1400, is the most important architectural work of the hamlet. In addition, several paths, in the heart of the forest, start right from Monteviasco. Of particular interest, the church of the Madonna della Serta, dating back to 1712. Its geographical position makes this box a real sentinel for Monteviasco and represents a fortress for the faith. Around the structure, which attracts a large number of visitors, a surreal silence shapes refined emotions, which exude from the striking of the local clock. In the village the dream becomes reality, the small mule-track coves are a real museum, all to be explored.

Monteviasco today ...

This village hanging by a thread, thanks to the cable car, is the emblem of mountain constructions. Every single piece of Monteviasco represents a page of history. The stone paths, the infinite staircase, the gorge traced by the Giova river, the Church of the Madonna della Serta, the houses, which recall the location of the cartoon Heidi, are the real driving force of the place and the surrounding valleys. In reality, the whole context is a monument to beauty, a sort of treasure trove of suggestions. All that remains is to immerse yourself completely in this earthly paradise, a sort of connection to the sky. With italiani.it we will continue to make known, from North to South, our wonders. The journey continues ...
