Today 23 May, the 30th anniversary of the Capaci massacre in which the judge died Giovanni Falcone with his wife Frances Morvillo and the men of the escort. To honor the memory of the victims, the president of the Sergio Republic Mattarella he went to Palermo where he intervened in the initiative promoted by Giovanni and Maria Falcone Foundation with the title "Everyone's memory. Italy, Palermo thirty years later ".
During the ceremony, various representatives of the institutions and the protagonists of the tragic days of the 92 attacks brought their testimonies in memory of Giovanni Falcone, Paolo Borsellino, Frances Morvillo. Honor to the memory also of the women and men of their escorts: Rocco Dicillo, Vito Schifani, Antonio Montinaro, Walter Eddie Cosina, Claudio Traina, Emanuela Loi, Vincenzo Li Muli, Agostino Catalano. Present, among others, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, the ministers of Foreign Affairs, the Interior, Justice, Education, University and Research.
Able thirty years later
The ceremony ended with the speech of the Head of State; here are some salient passages. "Giovanni Falcone he never abandoned himself to resignation or indifference but he let himself be guided without fear by the 'vision' that his Sicily and our entire country would be freed from the protracted presence of mafia crime. This 'vision' gave him the determination to pursue with determination the subtle and ruthless forms with which Mafia illegality manifests itself.
He acted not in contempt of danger or in search of ostentatious forms of heroism but in the awareness that the only possible path was the one offered by the tenacious pursuit of legality. Value with which the moral redemption of civil society is achieved. The firmness of his work was born from the deep-rooted belief that there were no alternatives to respect for the law, at any cost, even to that of life. With the awareness that at stake was the dignity of the functions held and one's own dignity. He cultivated courage against cowardice, the fruit of fear and fragility in the face of the arrogance of the mafia ”.

We are facing a difficult, painful season, marked first by the pandemic and then by the war in the heart of Europe.
