Madonna di Campiglio, from 19 to 24 February next, hosts the historic Hapsburg Carnival which recalls the glories of the Austrian court at the time of the Empress Sissi and the Emperor Franz Joseph.

The mountains that the Empress Sissi liked so much

"On these highest and most solitary peaks I can breathe more freely, while others would feel lost”. With these words Elisabeth of Austria, known and loved all over the world with the name of "Sissi", at the end of the XNUMXth century described her deep bond with the mountains. In particular with the The Dolomites of Brenta and Madonna di Campiglio where the sovereign stayed for the first time in September 1889. The beautiful and charismatic empress spent a week discovering the marvelous landscapes of Trentino, characteristic places for rivers and streams with crystal clear waters and for the healthy air at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites . Suggestive places to say the least where the 'legendary' Sissi returned a few years later.

The Habsburg Carnival

The Grand Hotel Des Alpes is an ancient alpine establishment that welcomes the famous and prestigious Hall Hofer, the ballroom of the Habsburg family. The name derives from the presence of the paintings created by the artist Gottfried Hofer. On the wall at the entrance, a large canvas portrays the Brenta Dolomites seen from the slopes of Monte Spinale, with the children who lived in these places paying homage to the figure of the Virgin and Child. For the Hapsburg Carnival, the municipal administration of Madonna di Campiglio organizes a program full of events every day. There historical re-enactment it becomes an opportunity to relive the golden age of the Austro-Hungarian Empire with a whole series of initiatives. From games for the little ones to the grand ball in period costume. To end with the great imperial party accompanied by the orchestra playing live.
