The Via Crucis at the Colosseum is one of the most heartfelt appointments on Good Friday for the large community of Catholics around the world. It is a ritual with which the Catholic church it recalls the most important moments of the Passion and death of Jesus. It is a moment of prayer, reflection, a penitential journey. The Via Crucis at the Colosseum is scheduled tonight, Friday 7th April, starting at 21:15. The itinerary of the 14 stations that commemorate the Calvary of Our Lord is set up around the Flavian Amphitheater. Religious and lay people symbolically accompany Jesus on his journey of pain from the death sentence to the crucifixion.

He will preside over the rite Pope francesco, flanked by senior prelates, priests and lay faithful. The Holy Father will follow the celebration from the special terrace on the Palatine while the Via Crucis will wind around the Colosseum with stops for prayer, reading of texts and meditations. As regards the content of this year's meditations, the pontiff will certainly not overlook a topic that is close to his heart, namely the war that has been devastating Ukraine for over a year.

An ugly page of contemporary history of which the pontiff has spoken and continues to speak in every public speech. Pope Bergoglio will also preside over tomorrow's Easter vigil, Holy Saturday, and the mass of Easter in the Vatican. Despite the illness that struck him last week and the consequent hospitalization at the Gemelli hospital, the Holy Father recovered his strength very quickly, expressing his strong will to attend all the rites of Holy Week which represents the culmination of the Catholic faith.

The event will be broadcast live on Rai1 starting at 21 pm. It can also be followed on digital terrestrial channel 208, on TV2000, and in free streaming on the RaiPlay platform.
