Giovanni and his beginnings ...
Giovanni Ficarra is a young Sicilian boy, from Messina, and he tells us about the discipline, i sacrifices and emotions, which allowed him to achieve this coveted goal. AND always been a competitive guy and has always loved sport and rowing. From an early age he practiced rowing in his city, this sport fascinates him so much that, at the age of 14 he decides to move to Umbria to train better and with the support of his parents he enrolls in school in Terni and therefore trains and studies . The first times are very hard, he misses his environment and his family and he will always miss them, even when he begins to try his hand at increasingly demanding competitions.
He has to face many difficulties also because, as they often remind him, he is short for this sport but then, finally, the height limit is removed and this allows him to compete for the College.
He entered the College, participated in the first European championship and finished fourth. Unfortunately the following year he is not reconfirmed at the College and he feels displaced, but his family and his company support him and so he remains, and that year, in Genoa, he wins the Italian championship, his joy is irrepressible!
Giovanni studies and trains, they always tell him that he does not have the body, that he is not tall enough but he goes on ...
At the end of the fifth grade, two days after the end of the state exams, he has the selection for the world championship and reaches the semifinals.

The day of the final arrives and Giovanni is at the height of his enthusiasm, it is his moment, his concentration is absolute, he is competing to become world champion and, at the end of the race, he feels "like passed out", he is his partner, Lorenzo Gerosa, to bring him back to reality and shout at him "We won".Giovanni is now attending university and hopes to join a military corps in order to devote all his time to training. This year he won the Italian championship for the third consecutive time, and in these days he won the bronze lightweight. Congratulations Giovanni!
