The statement reads: "All Gresini Racing gathers around the family, his wife Nadia and their children Lorenzo, Luca, Alice and Agnese ... and the countless people who have had the opportunity to know and appreciate him". Gresini had contracted the virus in December, before Christmas. He remained in home isolation and then hospitalized on December 27 at the Santa Maria della Scaletta hospital in Imola. From that moment his condizioni have slowly plummeted. When he arrived at the Maggiore hospital in Bologna, his ordeal began, between treatments, improvements and even the negativity achieved by the virus. Then worsening, sedation, and insidious interstitial pneumonia. Finally, in a post on February 10, his son Lorenzo had shown optimism. Dad was awake, examinations and oxygenation stable, but on antibiotics and without fever. Unfortunately, however, the lung infection took over, taking away a much loved and esteemed champion who represented Italy abroad.
