The Italian State Mint has chosen to pay homage to the great composer Ennio Morricone with a coin. Issued by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, it belongs to the Numismatic Collection 2021. A great tribute to teacher passed away on July 6, 2020.

The coin dedicated to Ennio Morricone

La coin dedicated to Ennio Morricone it has a portrait of the composer on the obverse. The inscription "Italian Republic" is engraved on the circle, and in the exergue, the name of the author of the coin "Cassol", which stands for Maria Angela Cassol, the author of the State Mint. On the reverse, we have chosen to depict the hands of the Master in the act of directing. In the circle, the writing with his name at the top, the value "5 euro" and in the right field, "R", identifying the Mint of Rome, and the year of issue 2021.

The coin is part of the “Great Italian Artists” series and has a face value of 5 euros. I am there are two versions issued by the State Mint: 5 euro Brilliant Uncirculated in silver with a circulation of 8 thousand pieces and 5 euro bimetallic with a circulation of 10 thousand pieces. The choice to pay homage to Ennio Morricone was decided by a commission made up of representatives of the ministry, the Mint and masters of art.

The career of the composer and conductor

Ennio Morricone is considered among the greatest composing artists in the history of music. There are over 100 classical songs composed and countless soundtracks that have made him famous. The conductor and composer collaborated in particular with Sergio Leone creating real masterpieces of music. Since the 70s his works have reached Hollywood thanks to the films "Mission" and "The untouchables".

For his contribution to the art of film music, he received the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2007 after having received five nominations between 1979 and 2001. Among the awards won also three Grammy Awards, three Golden Globes, six BAFTAs, ten David di Donatello, eleven Silver Ribbons, two European Film Awards, a Leone d'Oro at the career and a Polar Music Prize. Ennio Morricone has sold more than 70 million records.
