BCsicilia Isola delle Femmine organizes for the feast of San Giuseppe the traditional altar inserted within a virtual exhibition of objects that recall ancient crafts.

The exhibition is curated by Agata Sandrone in collaboration with Isabella Francaviglia and the Geraci bakery. This year, due to the health emergency still dramatically underway, in Isola delle Femmine the traditional Feast of San Giuseppe will not be possible, as in previous years, with the distribution of bread and soup in the square.
The local branch of BCsicilia organizes in its headquarters an altar with the image of St. Joseph and the traditional flavored bread, with wild fennel and minestrone, cooked with vegetables, dried legumes such as beans, lentils, chickpeas and cruzziteddi (dried chestnuts) with pasta of different shapes. In past years, bread and minestrone were prepared in large quantities, to be offered to the islanders. The typical dessert of the day is the sfincia, garnished with ricotta and candied fruit.

A tradition, which for safety reasons has been forbidden in Isola delle Femmine is that of the vampa di San Giuseppe, a gigantic bonfire lit in the square using huge piles of wood. During the day, objects related to ancient crafts will be presented, in honor of the Saint: carpenter's tools and tools of the bread cycle such as: old plows, scythes, pitchforks, baskets. The purpose of the local section of BCsicilia di Isola delle Femmine, led by Agata Sandrone, is not to lose the memory of a suggestive tradition and the historical memory linked to the ancient crafts of the area.
