Covid emergency, the average age of the infected falls below 50 years while theRt index national level touches the threshold of 1, remaining the same as last week at 0,99. The spread goes from 0,93 to 1,03. The data was evaluated by the control room which elaborated the progress of the pandemic. According to the weekly monitoring data Iss-ministry of health, the average age of diagnosed Covid cases has decreased to 44 years.
There is also a clear acceleration in the increase in incidence at the national level, compared to the previous week. Meanwhile, the data of the Ministry of Health today record an increase in infections which are attested to 20.499 (yesterday 19.886). The new deaths are 253 (yesterday 308). The discharged healed today are 111.714 (yesterday 12.853); while overall the positive cases are 404.664, 8.512 more than yesterday.
ICU admissions are on the rise
ICU numbers impose restrictions. In fact, the number of regions and autonomous provinces that have an intensive care employment rate above the critical threshold is increasing. They are 8 against 5 of the previous week.
In some regions, the absolute number of hospitalized patients in a critical area and the relative impact, together with the incidence "still impose restrictive measures". The employment rate in intensive care nationwide continues to be high but below the critical threshold (24%).
The average age of the infected falls and the variants of the virus proliferate
“In Italy there are areas and regions with a very high incidence, such as in Trentino, Molise and Abruzzo, due to the presence of the English variant. This also happens in Umbria, again due to the presence of the English and Brazilian variants. We need to make a big effort to contain the outbreaks". Thus the experts who reiterate: “When the interventions are relaxed, the epidemic immediately restarts. We therefore have successive waves that depend precisely on the restrictive measures. This is due to the fact that the population susceptible to infection is still large ".
“In the regions many outbreaks are due to the new variants, we can only express concern for the progress of the epidemic. We have to keep our guard up and where there is a need we need to intervene promptly and hard". These are the conclusions of the experts who highlight: "The incidence rate is also growing in school age. We have a decrease in the average age of cases: this may be a first effect of vaccinations on the elderly and RSA patients. However we also begin to see outbreaks in the schools and this could be a consequence of the variants that infect children more but without severe forms ".
