This is the exhortation of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. “Now more than ever it is necessary to remain united in a joint effort that will allow us to make ever stronger and reaffirm the values and ideals that are the basis of our civil life. That common thread that, from the Risorgimento to the Resistance, led to the rebirth of Italy ". So the Head of State in a message sent on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Liberation, to the Combat and Weapon Associations.
Cohesion and rebirth
"Rebirth, unity, cohesion, reconciliation in the new republican constitution. These are the sentiments - Mattarella recalls - that guided the reconstruction in the post-war period and that guide us today towards overcoming the crisis caused by the pandemic. A crisis which, in addition to affecting us with the loss of many loved ones, puts a strain on the economic and social life of the country. The difficult moment we are experiencing - underlines the president Sergio Mattarella - limits the way in which the Liberation Day is celebrated.
However, I wish with equal intensity, on this April 25, the Day of Freedom for all Italians, to remember the sacrifice of thousands of compatriots who fought in the ranks of the Resistance. Who fought in the troops of the Italian Liberation Corps. We remember the sacrifice of those who were deported, interned, exterminated in concentration camps. And of the women and men from all walks of life who did not lack their support, often paying hard for their choice ".
