The contagion curve goes down but coexistence with the notorious virus that generated the pandemic, according to experts, just doesn't work. "I hope that the new government will leave the strategy of coexistence with the virus and embrace that of elimination".
These are the considerations of Walter Ricciardi, professor of hygiene atCatholic University of Rome as well as advisor to the minister of health Roberto Speranza. The expert underlined his concern at seeing a "worsening trend of the epidemic", also due to the new, more contagious variants.
Coexistence with the virus just doesn't work
“The strategy of eliminating the virus is working in the countries that have adopted it. While coexistence - remarked Ricciardi - is forcing us to continually push and pull which are detrimental to health, the economy and the psychology of people ".
With respect to the epidemiological situation, Ricciardi put it this way: “The regions that have been bitchy they are seeing decreasing cases, the orange regions are stable and the yellow ones are getting worse. The strong concern is that these new variants are much more contagious and alter the balance in a pejorative sense ".
