An app based on artificial intelligence can identify people at risk of contagion from Sars-Cov-2, even if asymptomatic. An identification based on smartphone GPS data, thus allowing only those who are really at risk to be quarantined. The system is developed by the university of Hamburg and by the private company Synergies Intelligent Systems and is featured in Scientific Reports. According to the creators, it could reduce the number of quarantined people by 94 percent.

Artificial intelligence identifies people at risk of contagion

The algorithm, developed from the data of a city in China whose name is not revealed, integrates the movements of the person with those of the 'real world'. From electronic transactions to video camera images, to evaluate how long and on how many occasions a person has been close to another.

The system labels people according to their disease status as 'susceptible', 'quarantined', 'exposed', 'infected', 'hospitalized' and 'cured'. A status that can also be supplemented by 'personal' information such as the habit of wearing a mask or washing hands. “Starting from these labels - explains Shangching Liu, one of the authors - we use our interactive model to understand what could happen to a person and those around him”.
