Is called Comedy and will debut next April. AND the brand new game created by Cobblepot Games of Ravenna. An original tribute dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet.
Comedia, the game
A deck of 110 cards throws the player into Dante's Hell in a competition of roles and virtues. It is not essential to be an expert in Divine Comedy. The minimum age to participate is in fact 10 years old. Comedy it does not set particular access limits; is a game that everyone can take part in, including children. Just follow the rules and step by step you will meet with the protagonists of the first canticle. The beauty of Comedy is, among others, also in the card quality characterized by captions and images. Charged with a romantic taste, between the epic and the dramatic, the representations take up the engravings of Gustave Doré, painter who illustrated the Opera in 1861.
The project started in 2015, six years ago. At that moment Federico Latini wins the first edition of the Nerd Play Award, at the Modena Play festival. A contest dedicated to the creation of debut games in which Latini stands out with Marathon. Particular is the fact that the original idea has nothing of Dante, as the name evidently suggests. It is above all to amaze the internal logic of the game that seems to be very suitable for the descent into the underworld. Thus the Cobblepot Games of Ravenna, with which Latini wins a contract, takes up the structure of Marathon to apply it to an idea that has been decanted for some time. That of making a game about Dante. Thus was born Comedy, a game that then met with the support of the Municipality of gradara and the publisher Top Hat Games.
The importance of the game
Playing is serious business. Designing a playful product requires competence and professionalism. Comedy it was created with the involvement of experts from different disciplines. Among these are Matteo Pironi, psychologist and Gabriele Mari who, as we read on the indications for the game, is the one who conducted the philological research.
Through Comedy perhaps a renewed curiosity about Dante's work will also arise. Maybe by those who have had few opportunities to be able to deepen it at school. Promoting such an important piece of Italian culture, through a card game, would not be bad. But Comedy, like all board games, it also has one social function. A bit complicated these days; the sector industry was also affected by the Covid restrictions. With the hope that the situation can improve, Comedy will be available in a limited number of copies: 700, like the years since Dante's death.
