Christmas Carol, a great musical that will be staged at Roma at the Auditorium della Conciliazione, on 10 and 11 December next. La Bit Company presents an original work with the aim of enhancing the musical as a high-level Italian product, an intense and complete interpretative expression. Christmas Carol is the most famous Christmas novel by Charles Dickens, adapted for musical theater by Melina Pellicano, author and director. The music is by Stefano Lori and Marco Caselle.
Christmas Carol
It is the fantastic story, divided into five parts, of Ebenezer Scrooge, a rich and stingy businessman, who disdains everything that is not related to earnings and money. There vigil of Christmas, irritated by the festivities, because according to him they lead to idleness and a useless waste of money, he rudely refuses to make an offering for the poor. He makes his employee work late, to whom he grants meager wages, kicks out his sister's son, who had come to invite him to the Christmas lunch. And on the street he rudely responds to wishes addressed to him. As he arrives at the front door of his deserted home, the specter of his deceased partner, Jacob Marley, appears on the doorknob. He admonishes him about his life conduct, and invites him to repent so as not to be forced to wander like him for eternity, carrying with him the weight of the chains he had earned with his aridity and lust for money.
For this reason, Scrooge will be visited by three Spirits: the Past, the Present and the Future. The Spirit of the Past brings him back, when Scrooge, as a child, was sent by his father to boarding school. Scrooge had given up all affections to devote himself only to gaining a position by earning money. The Present shows him how the people around him are preparing for Christmas, the atmosphere of celebration, joy and love. The Future shows him what happens when a rich gentleman dies, whose name is unknown. No one visits him, no one wants to go to the funeral, the servants share his few possessions, the company and the house are sold. Finally the Spirit shows him the tombstone in the cemetery with the name "Ebenezer Scrooge". At this point Scrooge understands that he has done everything wrong in life, and repents. Christmas day is finally Christmas for him too.
