Bad weather warning. The weekend opens under the banner of a typically autumnal variable climate, characterized by storm fronts alternating with clearings. The temperatures, in extremis, seem to recover the long-awaited "St. Martin's Summer".

Severe weather alert

The Department of Civil Protection predicts intense rain and thunderstorms, with the risk of hailstorms, lightning and strong gusts of wind in regions such as Tuscany and Lazio. The orange alert has been declared for the hydrogeological risk over north-western Tuscany, while the rest of the region and 10 other regions, including Umbria, Calabria, Sicily, Abruzzo and Molise, are on yellow alert.

The forecast for today indicates sunny spells in the Northwest, Lombardy, western Emilia and western Veneto, with possible snowfall in the western Alps. In the far North-East, rain and thunderstorms are expected in Friuli VG, then extending to the Venetian coasts and Romagna. In the Centre, initial clearings on the Tyrrhenian coasts will be followed by clouds and intermittent rain in the inland areas, Umbria and Marche. Tuscany experiments more intense rain and thunderstorms, then extending to Lazio. In the South, instability in the morning with rain and thunderstorms on the Tyrrhenian side, extending to Calabria during the day. In Sardinia, rain and thunderstorms will occur from western to eastern areas. Sicily and the Adriatic side will be drier and sunniest. Winds will be tense or strong from the west-southwest.
