Andrea Bocelli will sing in the Milan Cathedral on Easter evening giving life to a concert event entitled “Music for hope”. The great tenor famous all over the world will perform, in the extraordinary stage which is the Duomo of the Lombard capital, but without an audience. This is in compliance with the restrictive measures imposed by government decrees to deal with the pandemic from Coronavirus.
Bocelli welcomed the invitation of the mayor of the Milanese city Giuseppe Sala, choosing to sing in the city 'heart' of the region most affected by the lethal spread of the virus. The concert will be streamed worldwide on the tenor's Youtube channel. The pieces, for organ and solo voice, will range from the rich and evocative repertoire of the Holy music. The concert event will acquire even more significance as it will be held at Easter, a day that is a symbol of renewal and rebirth.
Andrea Bocelli protagonist of an event concert
"On the day when trust in winning life is celebrated, I am honored and happy to answer 'yes' to the invitation of the city and the Duomo of Milan“, Comments the tenor who will perform without receiving any compensation. "I believe in the power of praying together, I believe in Christian Easter, the universal symbol of a rebirth that everyone, believers and non-believers, needs now".
These are the considerations of Bocelli who will be accompanied only by Emanuele Vianelli, organist of the cathedral that houses the largest organ in Italy, one of the largest pipe instruments in the world. "Thanks to the music that will involve millions of hands joined in streaming all over the world - announces the tenor - we will embrace this beating heart of the wounded world, a wonderful international forge which is the pride of Italy".
Bocelli's homage to Milan and Lombardy affected by the Coronavirus
"Our thoughts go to the city, representing a Region fatally hit by the virus, but ready to get up again - says the tenor - The generous, proactive, courageous Milan and all of Italy will again and very soon be a winning model.
They will still be the engine of a Renaissance that we all hope for. It will be a joy to witness it, in the Cathedral, on the feast that evokes the mystery of the rebirth after death ”.
The satisfaction of the mayor of Milan
“I am happy that Andrea has accepted our invitation - declares the mayor of Milan - This year Easter will be different: the joyful serenity that accompanies it is strongly disturbed by the pandemic we are experiencing. I am sure that Bocelli's extraordinary voice will be the hug that we are missing in these days, a strong, special hug, capable of warming the heart of Milan, of Italy and of the world ".
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Milan and by the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo. The concert is produced by Sugar Music and Universal Music Group thanks to the contribution of Youtube. Furthermore, Bocelli, with the Foundation that bears his name, is currently engaged in a campaign on the Covid-19 emergency. In fact, the Andrea Bocelli Foundation (ABF) has activated a fundraiser to help hospitals and wards. The aim is to purchase medical equipment and personal protective equipment for those at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic.
