Today is the 78th anniversary of the Liberation: on April 25, 1945 in Italy the war and the long Nazi-fascist oppression finally ended. This morning the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, after paying homage to the monument of the Unknown Soldier at theAltar of the Fatherland, will be in Piedmont. Precisely a Cuneo, Borgo San Dalmazzo and Boves. In Cuneo, the Head of State will lay a wreath at the Resistance Monument. Subsequently he will go to the Teatro Toselli for the commemorative ceremony relating to the 78th anniversary of the Liberation.

Speeches by the President of the Province, Luca Robaldo are expected during the celebration; of the mayor Patrizia Manassero, of the president of the Region, Alberto Cirio. And of the president of the Historical Institute of the Resistance, Sergio Soave. The speech of the head of state will follow. Yesterday afternoon, President Mattarella received al Quirinal a representation of the Combatant and Armed Associations, again for the anniversary of the Liberation. The meeting was opened by the greetings of the vice president of the Permanent National Council of Weapons Associations and president of theNational Union of Officers on leave from Italy, General Federico Sepe. And the president of the Italian Confederation of Combatant and Partisan Associations, Prof. Claudio Betti. The Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto and the head of state himself then intervened. The initiative was attended by representatives of the government, of the Parliament; civil, military and religious authorities.

During the meeting, President Mattarella addressed Minister Crosetto "appreciation for the efficient, brilliant and rapid operation that was carried out in Sudan to save our fellow citizens". The President of the Republic praised “the commitment and determination that the associations employ every day to keep alive the memory of one of the most dramatic periods in our history. This largely contributed to making known and not forgotten those who fought for the defense of the ideals of independence and freedom that allowed Italy to be freed from Nazi-fascist oppression”.
