Urbania, an ancient town in the province of Pesaro-Urbino, organizes the national feast of the Befana as part of the "The Christmas you don't expect”, now in its XXVI edition. Urbania was formerly called Casteldurante; it changed its name in 1636 in honor of Pope Urban VIII who in that year recognized it as a diocese.
National Epiphany Day
Cs like every year, the Befana descends from the bell tower and glides into the square throwing sweets and candies from above in a riot of lights and music. At the post office of the nice old lady, children can write their own letter helped by the vice-witches who then sit around the fire and tell fairy tales. There is also the real House of the Epiphany, which is located just below the town hall, where the old woman resides all year round. Here you will be able to see the cauldron where she prepares her potions, the collection of games, the parking lot of her flying broom and the bed where she rests after flights.
The longest sock in the world
In the streets of the city you can admire the longest Epiphany stocking in the world which the witches of Urbania work all year round. For three days, the ancient village will be enlivened by dozens of shows and initiatives of various kinds. There will be the square of the chocolate, the Befana emporium, the do-it-yourself square, the courtyard of flavors and the Befana playground. And, of course, you will be able to taste the many delights of the kitchen local. In addition, the mayor will hand over the keys to the city old lady who brings gifts who, from 4 to 6 January, will be the undisputed queen of the Epiphany to underline that from 4 to 6 January she is the undisputed queen of the event that will conclude the Christmas holidays.
