Revoltella Civic Museum

The Revoltella Civic Museum was established at the behest of Baron Pasquale Revoltella (Venice 1795 – Trieste 1869), three years after his death on 8 September 1869. Revoltella is one of the most important and influential personalities of XNUMXth-century Trieste, a strategic trait d'union between Friulian city and the imperial Habsburg house. The baron is also an authoritative interlocutor on behalf of Austria in the complex and intricate 'affaire de Suez' in which he is a shareholder.

Palazzo Revoltella is a sumptuous residence built in the mid-nineteenth century (1853-1858) in Borgo Giuseppino, based on a project by the Berlin architect Friedrich Hitzig. The impressive and important artistic heritage accumulated over 150 years is the tangible example of the baron's forward-looking mentality and free spirit that went beyond the narrow confines of his city or his region. An eclectic and strong-willed mind that aimed at the socio-economic development of the territory, a growth that also found its lifeblood in culture.

Dedicated routes

On the occasion of this important anniversary, the Revoltella Museum organizes for two non-consecutive afternoons a month "Wednesdays with the curator". It is a series of guided tours lasting one hour, during which real focus is created on the different aspects of the museum. From the historic home of the baron to the modern art gallery project, from stories related to the artistic heritage to the illustration of the most important donations and more.

Workshops are also planned for the anniversary educational dance creatives, reserved for children aged between 6 and 10 years. Two diversified and independent itineraries with which the adult public can explore the historical-artistic themes of the heritage and the museum. While young visitors can approach the works of art in a completely new way through dance, an 'unconventional learning' method that involves the rational sphere. And also the sensorial and emotional one through the use of the body and its movement.
