I vaccines in the pharmacy they are reality. Or rather, they will soon be. On Monday 29 March the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government, the Regions, Federfarma and Assofarm for administration in pharmacies. This is a step that formalizes what has already been announced in the Sostegni Decree and that anticipates the arrival of the serum. Johnson & Johnson, expected for April 16 and functional for the achievement of herd immunity (providing a single dose, allows to shorten the time). But how will vaccines work in pharmacies?

Vaccines at the pharmacy will not be for everyone

Vaccines at the pharmacy will not be for everyone. This is the main aspect of the provision. "Extremely vulnerable" subjects will not be able to receive the serumnor those who have had severe or anaphylactic allergic reactions in the past. Furthermore, to vaccinate, pharmacists will first have to follow specific programs according to the procedures established by the Istituto Superiore della Sanità. And their premises will have to respect minimum safety requirements. The space for the reception of patients and for the vaccine must be separated from the room (s) in which ordinary activities take place. Air recirculation will be a fundamental requirement and, at the entrance to the pharmacy, a notice must be displayed with the methods of access and the maximum number of people allowed. The participating pharmacists will have to prepare a space (possibly even outside) for newly vaccinated patients, so that they can remain under observation for a quarter of an hour.

What the pharmacist will have to do

Citizens will have to book vaccines at the pharmacy in time. And they will have to sign an informed consent. This, together with the medical history sheet, will be collected by the pharmacist who will have to evaluate whether or not the subject can be vaccinated in this way. In the event of a severe allergic reaction, you will have to call 118, or administer intramuscular adrenaline depending on the situation. For each vaccine, the pharmacist will be awarded a remuneration of 6 €, in addition to the reimbursement for i dpi and for consumables. Thus, pharmacists join the professionals authorized to administer the serum together with general practitioners, specialists, outpatient specialists, pediatricians of free choice and dentists.
