The event, organized by theItalian Embassy in Malta in collaboration with the Foundation italiani.it andItalian Academy of Cuisine to celebrate the flag of Italy.
The exciting evening, which took place at Malta at Casino Maltese, was enriched by the speech of the Italian Ambassador in Malta Fabrizio romano:
“The tricolor, the unification of Italy, in the presence of Maltese friends and Italian friends, and the ambassador is asked to speak about the flag of his own country. There are two risks for the listener, the first is that of being bored, overwhelmed by the rhetoric, the second is that of being subjected to a learned historical-critical analysis which is fine in university lecture halls but which, especially before lunch, appears out of place.
I preferred to have Italy talk about the Italian flag, about Italian unification in different languages, in a country like Malta that knows and appreciates Italy like no other country in the world, something we are very proud of.
What are these languages? The first is that of symbols, you will have noticed it from the setting up of this initiative, this evening, from the decorations to the naming of tables, from many little things and above all from the beautiful volume that is already on display somewhere and will be offered to all participants. I would also like to say that we specially brought the European champions national football team to Malta… but I would be lying, even if it is a happy coincidence. The second language is that of music, from the national anthems performed by the professor and pianist Leonardo Barilaro to then a composition of the same, which has reached the stars in the true sense of the word, having been sent and reproduced in the international space station and by the international space station of our country which is called Maleth . The Maestro will play a part of it for us and he himself will explain what the arcana of this composition are. We will also speak of the Tricolor with the language of poetry; the actor Giovanni Costantino accompanied by the professor/Maestro Barilaro, with music by the composer Enaudi, will read some verses dedicated to Italy and the Tricolore. Another language we will use tonight to celebrate the flag and the unification of Italy is that of kitchen which, like music and poetry, is a pride of Italy.
I want to thank you for being here tonight, the Foundation italiani.it, the Accademia Italiana della Cucina delegation of Malta, for having contributed a lot of work and efficiency to this initiative. Thanks go to the President of the Scripta Maneant publishing house, Professor Raffaele Martena for having conceived and created the prestigious volume Bandiera Madre that you will receive this evening. Naturally, thanks go to Casino Maltese who are hosting us, to the sponsors of the evening and above all to Mr. Bianco who oversaw the organization of the event with passion, generosity and creativity. Last thanks to my collaborators at the Embassy who worked to make this initiative possible. Thank you all. "
The Risorgimento dinner
The organization of the dinner was entrusted to Massimiliana Tomaselli, president of the Malta section of the Italian Academy of Cuisine. The menu was dedicated to the key characters who led in 1861 to the unification of Italy under the tricolor; Mazzini, whose motto was "thought and action", Cavour, Vittorio Emanuele II, Garibaldi, who was in charge of the Expedition of the Thousand which was decisive for the unification of Italy. The dishes on the evening's menu were inspired by these four characters who made the history of Italy and their regions, Piedmont, Liguria, Sicily and Campania.
Even the tables recalled the theme of the Italian flag, both for the chromatic arrangement and for the names that were assigned, in fact, they were marked by the names of those who, among others, made the history of the Italian Risorgimento.
It was a splendid evening, a triumph of the tricolor that was remembered in every detail, from the lights, to the tables, to the flowers, to the prestigious book Bandiera Madre – The three colors of life, given to the guests present. Thanks to all those who contributed to the success of this event which narrated and celebrated the Flag of Italy, our Tricolore.
