Il Inspector Montalbano back in prime time on RAI 1, Monday 8 March, with the new fiction "The Catalanotti method ". Luca Zingaretti will once again take on the role of the most beloved commissioner in Italy, in the series based on the novels of the late Andrea Camilleri. “The Catalanotti method” will be a particular episode compared to the previous ones in the saga. Except Montalbano will have to investigate a murder case, after a theater director and moneylender (Carmelo Catalanotti), is found dead with a stab in the chest. The latter is famous for his "method", which leads the actor to enter the part by leveraging his own darkest secrets, as if they were psychoanalytic sessions. The commissioner will be able to solve the case, not without difficulty, also having to fight with his own feelings for Livia and for Vigata.

" This sentence taken from the best seller "The thief of Merendine”By Camilleri, could well describe the troubled soul of Montalbano in this new chapter. For the first time, in fact, thelove for Livia is questioned by the arrival of one new colleague (interpreted by Greta scarano) so he completely loses his head. This passion will also make him think of leave Vigata to follow the colleague. The city was until that moment a solid point in Montalbano's life and the new passion could lead him to ask for the transfer and leave the beloved Vigata. What Salvo will have to face will be the most difficult choices of his life, both personally and professionally.
The Catalanotti method: the last chapter of the television series?
In addition to Montalbano, in this new episode there will beagent Catarella (Angelo Russo), Mimi Augello (Cesare Bocci) to Sonia Bergamasco (Livia, Salvo's girlfriend). Zingaretti was also co-director, replacing Alberto Sironi, historical director of the series since the first episode launched in 1999. In fact, Sironi died in 2019 due to a long illness, a few weeks away from the disappearance of Andrea Camilleri. These two tragic events, together with theCovid-19 emergency, could also mark the end of the television adventures of Inspector Montalbano, despite the fact that two novels by the master are still missing Camilleri that can be transposed onto the small screen, or "The Alycon cook"(May 2019) and"riccardino"(Published posthumously in July 2020). Will we see Inspector Montalbano di Zingaretti again on TV? Although everything is at a standstill due to Covid-19, Zingaretti and the production seem to have left a gap open, to the delight of fans.
