Sanremo is the most anticipated show of the year, both by those who love it and by its detractors. During the days of the Festival theItaly stops and everything that happens in our country and in the world almost seems to take second place. Sanremo is also talked about a lot in the weeks preceding the beginning, even in the classrooms of Parliament. To point the finger at the Festival of Sanremo 2023 was the deputy Madeleine Morgante (FdI), which attacked the artist Pink Chemical and the "scabrous" song that he would bring to the stage. Last year it was instead the turn of Federico Mollicone (FdI) with the “reed-gate”, after the announcement made by the co-host Ornella Muti in favor of medical cannabis. In short Sanremo is always Sanremo but, in the Italian Song Festival, does music count more or something else?

Sanremo Festival 2023: the day after of the two evenings

For example, in the "day-after" of the first evening of this one 73th edition of the Sanremo Festival there was talk above all of the "fool" of Blanco, Which has destroyed the flowers of the scene due to the problems with the headset, of Gianni Morandi who cleans the stage, of the speech of Roberto Benigni on Constitution (and the controversies relating to his cachet), the "surprise" presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, of the clothes of Chiara Ferragni and his monologue. And the music? There was, that too but, rankings and report cards aside, it was talked about to a "lesser extent".

Yesterday evening, Gianni Morandi he immediately wanted to extinguish the controversies of the previous evening. He came on stage with a broom and sang (and made people sing)"Thank you for the flowers"of Nilla Pizzi. Although there have been controversies, such as the one relating to the freestyle of Fedez and his attack on the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Galeazzo Bignami, photographed in a Nazi uniform, the second evening of the Sanremo 2023 Festival was more marked by music, thanks also to the performance of the trio Morandi-Ranieri-Albano. However, the monologues of Frances Fagnini, with his speech dedicated to the boys detained in the juvenile prisons, And Drusilla Foer and the activist Pegah Moshir Pou, with their intervention in support of women's struggle against repression in Iran.

Sanremo Festival: when controversy surpasses music

Bad intentions and rudeness, your bad impression last night… the quarrel between Morgan and Bugo al 2020 Festival of Sanremo it was certainly one of the most memorable moments of the signed event Amadeus. However it is not the only case in the history of Sanremo in which, instead of music, people preferred to talk about something else. Among the most recent examples are the controversies regarding the vote, after the outburst of Ultimo in the press room for having finished second (2019), the restrictions due to Covid in 2021 and the “fake swabs"of Mrs. of this year. Going back in time, there has been a lot of talk about the “farfalla"of Belen Rodriguez in 2012. Then in 2010 the musicians threw away the scores after televoting eliminated Malika Ayane in favor of the trio Pupo, Emanuele Filiberto and Luca Canonici.

Many other examples like these could be given but, as already mentioned, Sanremo is always Sanremo and… the show must go on. The Sanremo 2023 Festival is not finished yet and naturally we expect some other unscheduled events that will overshadow the musical component. What will cause the most stir? It will be the champion's monologue paola egono or the long-awaited message from the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, which has been talked about for weeks already? We'll find out in the next few hours.
