There are 27 authorized centers in Sicily for the use of monoclonal antibodies to fight Covid. These are synthetic antibodies created on the basis of the most effective ones naturally produced by already immunized patients. A cure not yet fully studied to counteract the symptoms of Coronavirus.
La Sicily region authorized 27 administration centers and the Department of Health specified all the procedures for administering medicines. "Patient selectioni - explain from the Region - is entrusted to general practitioners, to pediatricians of free choice, to doctors of the Usca and, more generally, to doctors who have the opportunity to come into contact with subjects affected by recently onset Sars-Cov-2 infection and with mild to moderate symptoms. The doctors, on the basis of the criteria identified by AIFA, identify who can be subjected to the treatment and contact the nearest center to agree on the date and method of administration of the monoclonal antibodies ".
Monoclonal antibodies authorized in Italy
As can be read in a note from the AIFA, monoclonal antibodies have not yet been fully studied. They also did not receive approval from the European Medicines Agency (EMA). In Italy they have been authorized on a temporary basis with the Decree of the Minister of Health of 6 February 2021 published in the Official Gazette of 8 February 2021, n. 32, for the treatment of mild to moderate coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adult and pediatric patients. The monoclonal antibody bamlanivimab and the combination of monoclonal antibodies bamlanivimab-etesevimab, produced by the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, were approved. The association of monoclonal antibodies casirivimab-imdevimab of the pharmaceutical company Regeneron / Roche also authorized.
Authorized centers in Sicily
Centers authorized for the use of monoclonal antibodies in Sicilia they are located in the hospitals of the nine provinces. This is the map with all 27 centers:
- Agrigento (St. John of God, John Paul II in Sciacca and the Parlapiano Brothers in Ribera)
- Caltanissetta (Sant'Elia and two to Vittorio Emanuele in Gela);
- Catania (three at Cannizzaro, two at Garibaldi, one at Policlinico San Marco, at Santa Marta and Santa Venera in Acireale and at Maria Santissima addolorata in Biancavilla)

- Palermo (two at Villa Sofia-Cervello and at the Policlinico, one each at Civico-Di Cristina Benfratelli, at Cimino in Termini Imerese and at Partinico)
