A demonstration born in 1997 and that only Covid has stopped for a couple of years is back. On Saturday 14 May Milan hosted the 24th edition of the Medieval Procession who paraded near the house of the poet Francesco Petrarca.

The Medieval Procession has restarted from Casa Petrarca to Villa Linterno: a part of the parade moved at 9.30 right from theancient Milanese residence of the poet, in via F.lli Zoia 194, to then rejoin in piazza Cooperation with the rest of the procession which started from the schools in via Constant. The event continued in the ancient village of Quarto Cagnino. The protagonists of the event are the more than 250 young people of the "Benedetto Marcello" first grade secondary school of the "Luciano Manara" Comprehensive Institute.

Many figures present in the event: from flag-wavers to tambourineers, from jesters to Templars. All dressed in medieval clothing. Here are some photos exclusively for italiani.it.

Petrarch and the link with Milan

The famous poet Francesco Petrarch he was born in Arezzo but was a guest in Milan for a long period (from 1353 to 1361) of the Visconti family. In that period Petrarch was a Milanese citizen. Some have recently been discovered frescoed decorations dating back to the Visconti period (XNUMXth century) according to the medieval technique of "mezzo fresco" which gave an important testimony to it.

During the stay a Milano, Petrarch wrote several works. In the Milanese period, Petrarch probably concluded the Bucolicum Carmen, in which the poet spoke of love, politics and morals. In Milan he probably wrote the De remediis utriusque fortunee, a collection of short dialogues in Latin prose. It is probable that while staying with the Viscontis, Petrarch also wrote the De otio religious, an exaltation of monastic life, dedicated to his brother Gherardo.
