Milan is preparing to say goodbye to San Siro. From 2027 the historic Meazza will be replaced. In six years, Milan and Inter will play in the Cathedral, made by the Populous studio. An avant-garde project, aesthetically inspired by the Duomo, as well as by the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. An idea that for months had been ahead of that of the Rings of Channel-Sportium. It is not yet official but there is nothing missing but the details to be finalized, so as to define terms and development of the system.

It is certainly not the first time that the studio has undertaken projects of this type, quite the contrary. More than 1000 stadiums in its portfolio, including the new Wembley and the innovative Tottenham sports facility. Now all that remains is to understand what will become of the San Siro. Will they opt for demolition?

New stadium for Milan and Inter

To date, the hypothesis under consideration for San Siro, or the Meazza Stadium in Milan, which from 2027 will no longer be the game theater of Milan and Inter, in Serie A as in Europe. The possibility of a partial demolition is evaluated after the 2026 Winter Olympics, an event that will see the opening ceremony in this very team. We would opt for the subsequent construction of a sports and commercial district, or a space given back to the public.

The area of the new stadium, the Cathedral, will be entirely pedestrian, with approximately 110 thousand square meters of green areas, or 40% of the total. The parking lots will be completely underground. In no case will they be proposed on the surface. Furthermore, many of the recreational-sporting activities presented in the project will be outdoors or inside redeveloped spaces. All offered to the public in agreement or free of charge.

The goal is to present the project officially in the course of 2022. It will be an avant-garde structure both for innovation and for eco-sustainability. It will be a zero impact and LEED certified plant, with water and energy saving materials and technologies. The study will also structure the Cathedral for a considerable reduction of noise emissions. It will also be an excellence for accessibility and, in general, the experience guaranteed at the stadium for the public.
