A little while ago came the news that we all feared. Coronavirus is a pandemic. "We have assessed that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic situation"- announced the WHO. The decision came on the day when Wuhan celebrates the last discharged while in Italy and in the rest of the world cases continue to increase. There are 118 thousand scattered in 114 different countries. What is a pandemic and what changes
With the term pandemic, from the Greek "pandemos“, 'All the population', indicates an epidemic disease whose expansion is rapid, affects multiple geographical areas and involves many people. This, however, does not change the actions of the World Health Organization, but raises the level of alert and requires greater attention from all countries. On the contrary, "We expect to see the numbers of cases, deaths and the number of affected countries rise even more".
With these words we do not want to further alarm the population nor to create new fears. The warning to the whole world is to adopt, as Italy has recently done, more restrictive measures. Don't travel. Do not leave the house, unless strictly necessary. Avoid crowds and queues at supermarkets. Avoid any kind of contact with people affected and, even more so, with people who have been in contact with a patient affected by Coronavirus. Maintain high levels of hygiene. In short, nothing new. But respect the current regulations with seriousness, with respect for ourselves and for others. Only in this way can we mitigate the impact of SARS-CoV-2 and prevent its advance from continuing. Only in this way can we hope that the number of infections will decrease and return to a normal situation.
