Great satisfaction from Paolo Sorrentino, who said he was "very happy with this nomination". The latest masterpiece of the Neapolitan director has entered the magical five and will have to "clash" with other highly appreciated films on the international scene. The competing films are in fact: "Lunana, to Yak in the Classroom”By the Butanese director Pawo Choyning Dorji, "The worst person in the world”, Of the Norwegian Joaquim Trier, "Flee”, Of the Danish Jonas Poher Rasmussen and "drive my car"Of the Japanese Ryusuke Hamaguch (considered by many bookmakers to be the most highly rated for the final win, since it is also nominated for best film in the overall category).

Of course "It was the hand of God" will not be the only trace of Italianness present at the 94th edition of the Night of the Oscars. Other nominations have in fact been assigned to Massimo cantini parrini, for the category best costumes (in the movie "Cyrano") And the feature film Disney "Luca"of Enrico casarosa, for Best Animated Film.

The nomination al Oscar Prize as best international film is just the umpteenth recognition for this film, acclaimed by critics and audiences as a masterpiece. Released in theaters last 24th November and then Netflix il 15th December, “It Was the Hand of God” got several nominations. Sorrentino's film received the nomination for best foreign film for the year 2022 ai Golden Globe, To BAFTA, To BFC extension (Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards), al Palm Springs International Film Festival, To Satellite Award and not only. In 2021 it was nominated for best film for the European Film Award, London Film Festival, running for the Golden Lion to the 78th Venice International Film Festival, then winning the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize. The protagonist Filippo scotti, he also won the Mastroianni Prize as Best Emerging Actor.

Sorrentino is very attached to this film, because it speaks of his youth, of Naples of Maradona and, above all, the tragic death of his parents. The director commented on the nomination calling it a "a source of pride, as a prestigious recognition of the themes of the film, such as irony, freedom, tolerance, pain, lightheartedness, will, the future, Naples and its mother". The awards ceremony will be held next 27 March al Dolby Theater di Los Angeles. The hope for Sorrentino is to be able to replicate the success achieved with "The great beauty" in 2014. The Neapolitan director will be able to win the second Hollywood statuette? Even if "It was the hand of God" is less favored than the competing films ("Drive My Car" in primis), this Sorrentino masterpiece can still reserve surprises and aspire to be among the protagonists of the next Oscar Night.
