The final will be played on Sunday 11 July, a historic date for Italian sport because it will take place a few hours later the final of the European football championships.

Berrettini, first final in a Grand Slam

In just over two and a half hours of play, Matteo Berrettini enters the history of blue tennis. On the Central court, the world number 9 won the semifinal of the Wimbledon tournament. This is the sixth men's final at the Grand Slam level for Italy. Before Berrettini, Nicola Pietrangeli was four times at Roland Garros, the same tournament that saw Panatta triumph in 1976. This was the last victory of an Italian in a Grand Slam.

Berrettini's match impressed him and he did not feel the importance of the match from the very first exchanges. A clear and expeditious journey with two sets taken home and a partial of 11 zero games. The unfortunate Hurkacz seemed one step away from collapsing after the 6-0 suffered in the second set. Then the shot of pride and a third set played point to point. To win was the Pole who, with his back to the wall, gave everything and won the tie break.

Matteo Berrettini's strength was seen at the beginning of the fourth set. The Italian tennis player immediately made things clear by winning the break at the opening. In the end, the game won was decisive for the final victory. To make the difference the performance in the service of Berrettini who did not give his opponent a chance.

The words of the Italian tennis player

At the end of the match, Matteo Berrettini commented on his performance and the goal achieved. "I have no words, it will take me a while to understand what happened. There is my family, my team. I am really happy and excited. When you play at these levels you try to be at your best from every point of view, physical, tactical and mental. In the third set I thought I had won, then I lost it. I told myself I had to react and the result has come. I remember the first time I entered Central against Roger, it wasn't the same. But I enjoyed it even though I lost, that knockout helped me get back here today. It will be difficult not to follow Djokovic-Shapovalov, I should watch. I will need some rest. I hope Sunday will be better, I have to believe it“, These are the words of the tennis player.

The final will be staged on Sunday 11 July at 15pm. The compliments of Roberto Mancini also arrived on Twitter, ct of Italy
