It's really fascinating to see how the Italian music manages to touch the hearts of people all over the world. After all, it has always played a fundamental role in promoting the culture and language of the Bel Paese, on a global level. In recent months, on the occasion of the 75th Sanremo Festival, the Dante Alighieri Society conducted a survey to discover which are the most loved Italian songs in the world.

Under the direction of Fabio Caon, professor at Ca' Foscari University, the project “Canzoni ambasciatrici d'Italia”, which involved 190 Italian teachers from 42 countries, has allowed us to collect valuable data on which songs resonate most in the hearts of international listeners. The research has highlighted not only the most loved songs, but also the universal power of music in connecting different cultures.
The queen song is “I will leave with you”
It's incredible how a musical motif can evoke feelings of nostalgia and hope, making us all feel a little closer, despite the distances. Among the results that emerged, "Con te partirò" by Andrea Bocelli has established itself as the most beloved Italian song in the world. This song has conquered audiences of several generations.

Its powerful melody and evocative lyrics have made it a universal anthem, capable of crossing linguistic and cultural barriers. The original version, as well as the one interpreted by Luciano Pavarotti, has helped spread the message of unity and love, and has made it a symbol of Italian music on the global scene.
A universal message
The power of “Con te partirò” lies in its ability to touch the deepest chords of the human soul. The theme of travel, both physical and emotional, is universal and resonates with anyone who has ever had to face a farewell or a new adventure. Bocelli’s intense voice manages to convey a message of hope and rebirth, making the song ideal to listen to in moments of reflection and celebration.

The Italian musical tradition
In second place on the list we find “Nel blu dipinto di blu” by Domenico Modugno, another classic that has marked the history of Italian music. This song, also known as “Volare”, has captured the imagination of millions of people, becoming a symbol of the dolce vita and the beauty of Italy.

In third place, “Azzurro” by Adriano Celentano continues to tug at the heartstrings of listeners, confirming the eternal appeal of our song.
The influence of Sanremo
The Sanremo Festival plays a crucial role in spreading Italian music around the world. Every year, the festival presents new talents and songs that can become international hits. Songs like “Grande amore” by the trio Il Volo and “Soldi” by Mahmood have shown how the festival can launch artists and songs towards global success.

The visibility it offers remains, without a doubt, a unique opportunity for Italian musicians to make themselves known and appreciated beyond national borders.
New voices and trends
In addition to the timeless classics, the survey also revealed the emergence of new voices and trends. Artists like Annalisa and The Kolors are gaining popularity, bringing freshness and new sounds, demonstrating that the Italian musical tradition is alive and constantly evolving. Music – we know – is a universal language, in which each song tells a story that can resonate in different ways for each of us, giving us new and unforgettable emotions every time.
