An initiative of the group The Way of Joachim of Fiore, on Sunday 12 July. A walk along a path that from Platania it will lead to Carlopoli and the Abbey of Corazzo, in the footsteps of Joachim and in memory of Dr. Saverio Tropea passed away a month ago. A nature lover who has always been passionate about excursions on our mountains.

“It is by walking that one makes the journey” writes Antonio Machado Ruiz, a 800th-century Spanish poet and writer. Walking you find yourself, you savor slowness again, you confront nature, reclaiming your own existence, of spirituality and the surrounding world. New places are discovered why not, new friendships are made. This is what the Cammino di Gioacchino da Fiore association has been aiming for for some time.
A group born after some of its members came into contact with the Confraternity of St. James of Compostela in Perugia. An organization founded by Pilgrims who wanted to keep the memory of the experience of the Camino de Santiago. The group promotes the practice of walking in our Calabrian territories, under the benevolent gaze of Gioacchino da Fiore, an illustrious Calabrian also cited by Dante Alighieri in his Comedy. Abbot Gioacchino, theologian and writer, is also linked by an inseparable thread to nicastro and castle di Frederick II andCorazzo Abbey in Carlopoli.
A 15 km walk from Platania to Corazzo
It is precisely in these places dear to the Florentine abbot that the group proposes its Camminata in the footsteps of Gioacchino da Fiore. The meeting is scheduled for July 12th at 8 am, in front of the church in Platania. The group will see the welcome from theWarning of Decollatura, Platania and Carlopoli. The provincial blood donor association of Catanzaro, in fact, is an official partner of the event, together with the municipality of Carlopoli and National Park of the Sila.
The chosen route winds for 15 km along mountain paths, direction Abbey Corazzo. The Carlopoli municipal administration will welcome pilgrims and organize a guided tour of the Joachimite complex. This is not just a religious journey, therefore, but also one that embraces countless interests and concerns. Above all, it's a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And above all, the rediscovery of an enchanted place like the AbbeyThe organizers assure: “It will be a moment full of surprises and emotions.”
A walk to remember Saverio Tropea
This edition of the walk will have a special and nostalgic flavour. A month ago, Saverio Tropea, a pediatrician and passionate walker, unexpectedly passed away.They say that no encounter on a personal journey happens by chance. And the encounter with the group and Saverio Tropea was no accident either. A journey, a path that became a friendship. A journey undertaken together, full of effort and physical fatigue. But also, and above all, an intense moment of sharing all the joys of life. pilgrimage, of meeting others.
Exactly one month after his disappearance, the group felt it was almost right to pay tribute to those who shared a stretch of the road with the walkers. A tribute, yes, but with the certainty that on this journey Saverio Tropea will ideally be there with all the others to share the hardships and enjoy the beauty of nature. Trekking clothing is recommended. Masks must be worn during the guided tours along the trail.
