Another success arrives for Italy, this time in the kitchen. Our pastry chefs have triumphed in Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie, the Pastry World Cup. They finished ahead of Japan and the "hosts" of France.
The victory of Italy
Italy is confirmed in a golden age and not only in the world of sport. The latest Italian victory comes from the world of cooking. In particular from that of confectionery, with the triumph in the 2021 edition of the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie, held in Lyon.
Eleven nations competed for the title. The Italian team made up of Andrea Restuccia, Massimo Pica and Lorenzo Puca, and coordinated by the president of the Italian Club Alessandro Dalmasso. Italy took the world title, Switzerland was awarded the sustainability award while Chile won recognition for team spirit.
For Italy this is the twelfth participation in the competition and the third victory in its history. Two-thirds of the winning team is made up of pastry chefs who had won the bronze medal in 2019: the new entry is represented by the chocolate expert Massimo Pica. Our pastry chefs have won by making, with 10 hours of time, the chocolate dessert from share, the ice cream cake, the restaurant dessert, the 165 cm tall sugar sculpture and, with the same height, a chocolate piece.
In the wake of success
It doesn't end there though. After the conquest of the world title, the Italian cuisine sector is aiming for another triumph. In fact, in these days, again in Lyon, the challenge between 23 nations from all over the world for the well-liked gold statuette for cooks is taking place. Representing Italy is the Team Italy of the Bocuse d'Or Italy Academy, composed of Alessandro Bergamo, sous chef of the Cracco Restaurant in Milan, Francesco Tanese, the coach Lorenzo Alessio, the assistant coach Filippo Crisci and the aides Noel Moglia, Graziano Patanè and Andrea Monastero.
For Italy it is the opportunity to extend this impressive trail of successes, which has begun this summer with the victory of the European Football Championships and continued between the historic successes of Tokyo and other triumphs such as the recent European Volleyball Championships. The world of cooking has contributed to the Azzurri's successes and wants to continue to do so.
The Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie goes to Italy. A success achieved also thanks to the support of the founding members of Club Italia, as well as sponsors (Valrhona, Pasticceria Internazionale, Chiriotti Editori, CAST Alimenti, Agrimontana, Conpait) and obviously thanks to the help of the various official and technical sponsors, who have assisted and assisted the Italian pastry chefs both during training and for the competition.
