A rapidly growing sector
On the occasion of the Versilia Yachting Rendezvous, an event dedicated to the nautical sector which took place in May, the sums of recent years have been drawn with regard to the market and production. In particular the Cerved Credit Management Group released the statistics of the Viareggio production center. It emerged that the models produced in the Tuscan city only yielded the beauty of 1,130 million euro. Record numbers, but above all constantly growing. Compared to the previous year, in fact, the value increased by almost 4%. But not only. Of the whole production more than 80% was sold abroad, with an increase of 16% on an annual basis. This has in fact catapulted the Tuscan nautical industry to the top of the ranking of the most profitable activities for Made in Italy.
Boats, ships and yachts Made in Viareggio
But what is the Viareggio District? It is a production center dedicated to the nautical sector. Currently it almost counts 500 active companies with approximately 4.300 workers. Many of these businesses are located in Lucca, but the largest slice is concentrated in the Municipality of Viareggio. The activity is aimed at the design and manufacture of naval units of various sizes. There are shipyards specialized in the construction of small boats, up to those entirely dedicated to luxury mega-yachts. Space also for maintenance and restyling, with the presence of several workshops. The jobs, unlike the competition, all have an artisan mold, wanted precisely to differentiate themselves in the market. This has made, and still makes, the units produced in Viareggio real jewels of the sector. Jewels often sold in gold to sheikhs, billionaires and powerful businessmen that we mere mortals can only dream of and admire.
