Farewell to Alitalia, the historic national airline that for a few hours has stopped flying in the skies, from one end of the planet to the other. In fact, it took off at 22.36 pm last night and half an hour late, the flight AZ 01586 Cagliari-Rome, the last one after 75 years of activity. The plane, after take off from Cagliari arrived in Fiumicino: in practice just under an hour of flight that ended an era. Already today on the runways there is the air fleet of Ita, the new company that will represent Italy in the skies of the world.
Last Alitalia flight
The last Cagliari - Fiumicino route recorded a flight with 180 passengers on board and with the commander Andrea Gioia at the cloche: 55 years and 15 thousand hours spent suspended in the air. The last flight acquires a particular meaning because it is the last 'tricolor' connection with the Sardinia, which has always been served by Alitalia. In fact, in the race for territorial continuity, Volotea got the better of Ita. It will be precisely the Spanish low cost carrier to guarantee connections from the three Sardinian airports with Rome and Milan at discounted rates to and from the island.
“I am the commander of this which is considered the last Alitalia flight. From tomorrow Alitalia will no longer fly and will therefore be the end of the great epic of the Italian company ". This is the greeting of Andrew Joy to the crew and passengers of flight AZ 01586 Cagliari-Rome. To greet all the people on board also the hostess Laura Canto who expressed herself as follows: “Ladies and gentlemen first of all I wanted to thank you for having accompanied us during these 75 yearsi. Today is our last Alitalia flight. Heartfelt thanks for always flying with us and for trusting us. Alitalia thanks you for choosing its services and wishes you a good flight ". There was no lack of tears and emotion for an event that really marked the end of a piece of Italian history.
