Fear in Catania, where a part of the volcano's crater collapsed a short while ago. A large eruptive cloud, at least 5 kilometers high, is looming over Etna. In technical terms, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology Etna Observatory of Catania, speaks of a pyroclastic flow probably produced by a collapse of material from the northern flank of the crater of the South-East.

Infrasonic activity is also high with events localized in correspondence with the South East Crater.

Etna Crater Collapse: Air Traffic Regular for the Moment

There were fears a short while ago of a possible block (or slowdown) of air traffic, but for the moment there is no news in this sense.

In fact, up to now, there have been no consequences for air traffic at Catania airport. The Ingv-Oe has updated the aviation notice, the Vona (Volcano observatory notice for aviation) to orange. Therefore, at the moment, the current eruptive phase of Etna is not impacting the operations of the Vincenzo Bellini airport in Catania.
