Tour de France 2024, everything is ready for the 111th edition of the transalpine stage race. We start the next one Saturday June 29 and, one hundred years after the victory of the first Italian champion on the Great Boucle, Ottavio Bottecchia, this year we start from Florence. 21 stages scheduled for the over twenty teams involved in the Tour, until next Sunday 21 July, and the last stage in Nice, and not Paris. And of course the cheering from Italy the eight runners local people involved in this edition.
Tour de France 2024, this year we start from Italy: last stage in Nice
Among the new features of this Tour de France 2024 is the departure from Italy on Saturday 29 June. A century after the victory of the first Italian champion in this race, Ottavio Bottecchia, in the now imminent edition the first stage is the Florence – Rimini: it is the first time in the history of the Tour. Three stages in our country, winding through Tuscany, Emilia Romagna and Piedmont. Equally new is the final. In fact, the arrival is not expected, as usual, in Paris, but in Nice. In fact, the French capital will be involved in the 2024 Olympics at the end of July.

A journey of 21 stages, that of Great Boucle, for almost 3.500 kilometres. 8 stages for sprinters, 4 mixed stages, 2 time trials, one of which is the final stage in Nice, 7 mountain stages and 14 dirt roads. The Col de la Bonette, the highest point, with over 2.802 meters of altitude. As mentioned, first three Italian stages. The first, from Florence, will end at Rimini with over 200 kilometers; the next one will be there Cesenatico – Bologna, while the third stage between Piacenza and Turin. In the fourth stage, from Pinerolo you will enter French soil.
The Italian runners engaged in the race
All eyes are on Danish Jonas Vingegaard of Team Visma – Lease Bike, holder of the yellow jersey for two years in a row. But also pay attention to the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates, winner of the last Giro d'Italia. There are eight local runners and our memory goes to Vincenzo Nibali, yellow jersey in 2014. This year, the first is the climbing specialist Julius Ciccone of Lidl – Trek; then, the blue Gianni moscon of Soudal; the 27 year old Matteo Sobrero of Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe; Alberto Bettiol, captain of Italy at the Olympics and Italian national champion. And then there's the 31-year-old from Movistar Davide formolo, Luca Mozzato for Arkea B/B Hotels, and the two from the Astana Qazaqstan Team Michele Gazzoli e Davide Ballarini.
