Great success for the Italian national basketball team with Down syndrome: the athletes are the new champions of Europe. We celebrate this extraordinary victory which demonstrates how some limits can be crossed and great results can be achieved.
The new European champions
The boys of the Italian national basketball team with Down Syndrome have confirmed themselves champions of Europe. The new title adds to others won previously.
Six consecutive international successes; here are what they are:
– European Championship 2017
– World Cup 2018
– World Cup 2019
– European Championship 2021
– World Cup 2022
– European Championship 2023
This is who our people are samples that make us proud: Stefano Barollo, Stefano Borgato, Alex Cesca, Andrea Durante, Raniero De Fusco, Alessandro Greco, Francesco Leocata and Davide Paulis. Many of the new champions are between 15 and 19 years old, mostly from Padua. The group stood out for its skill, harmony and competitive spirit. A team that has grown over time and has increasingly consolidated its objectives.

Victory
The team led by Giuliano Bufacchi, assisted by assistants Mauro Dessì and Francesca D'Erasmo bent the Finland with a score of 34-18 in the SUDS European Championships final played in Padua on 9 September. The group immediately gave the opposing team a hard time, demonstrating harmony and a great desire to confirm themselves as champions once again. The public present did not fail to show their support, lighting up the building with chants and cheering.
The Azzurri team also received compliments from the Head of Government Giorgia Meloni and the President of Federbasket Giovanni Petrucci. The champions were celebrated with a real jubilation.
There have been many testimonies of affection on social media and from people towards these champions in sport and in life who have so much to teach us. The new champions are now preparing with enthusiasm for the new challenge but are deservedly enjoying the great success.
