Sanremo is not only the Italian song festival. Sanremo it is a show, a show that reflects our society, reflecting its vices and virtues, fashions and changes, strengths and weaknesses. On its stage different musical genres and styles are mixed, messages of great emotional impact are sent, trends and provocations are launched, and, above all, there is never a shortage of twists and transgressions. For these and countless other reasons, the Sanremo Festival has become more and more, over the years, an unmissable event, which offers food for thought and, for five uninterrupted days, gets people talking, for better or for worse. Because Sanremo is Sanremo. Because Sanremo is either loved or hated.

A show in step with the times

Sanremo 2023 is fully responding to the expectations of the public. The numbers say it, the highest ever, whatever anyone says. If once the Italian Song Festival focused attention exclusively on the lyrics of the songs and the simple but impeccable style of the singers, today it presents itself as a varied, creative show, in step with the times. Even if the songs of the past remain in history as the most beautiful and most sung ever, while many of the current ones are forgotten in a short time, Sanremo remains a show for the whole family and is very popular with young people.

Will

It is the latter, in particular, who through social networks express preferences, sensations, judgments, in real time, while having fun. And young people are also the real protagonists on the Sanremo stage, with their energy and trendy looks, and, right on the Ariston stage, they often act as spokespersons for messages pro diversity and inclusion. Even the co-presenters who support the presenter/s on duty, all successful women, as well as bringing beauty, personality and elegance to the stage, launch their creed by putting their face on it.

The good and the bad of Sanremo

The Sanremo stage, in recent years, has also been the setting for not exactly edifying "shows", which have made many turn up their noses, not just the moralists on duty. Episodes of this kind - we also saw it in the first two evenings - were not lacking in this 73rd edition either. However, like it or not, this too is a sign of changing times. At the same time, however, Sanremo does not fail to give its audience moments of great emotion and involvement (the triumph of the trio made up of Morandi, Al Bano and Ranieri was), solemn moments (such as the national anthem sung in front of the of the Republic Sergio Mattarella), cultural moments (think of Roberto Benigni's speech), tender and impromptu moments (Lazza's delivery of flowers to his mother at the end of last night's performance).

Sanremo belongs to us

We have to get over it, Sanremo is a cross-section of our society, therefore it belongs to us because it also speaks about us. But above all, Sanremo continues to give us so much good music, curiosities, surprises. Perhaps many songs, over time, we will forget them, but there will always be a song that we will continue to sing over the years. After all, each edition is unique and, above all, as well as giving us many different emotions, it allows us to distract ourselves for five evenings, making us forget the world's great problems for a while.
