On Saturday, May 9th, the Amerigo Vespucci set sail from the Porto Antico in Genoa on its 2026 North American Tour. And if you live in the United States or Canada, you may find it docked in your city's port in the coming weeks.
12.000 miles, five stages, a July 4th to remember
The program includes 156 days of sailing and over 12.000 nautical miles, with stops in Baltimore, Boston, New York, Quebec City, and Montreal. The most symbolic stop is New York: the Amerigo Vespucci will participate in the "International Naval Review 250," the event organized by the U.S. Navy to celebrate July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.
Not just a ship, an ambassador
The Amerigo Vespucci doesn't carry cargo. It carries stories. In every port, it becomes a floating piece of Italy: exhibitions, tastings, cultural events. The project combines military training, cultural diplomacy, and the promotion of Made in Italy, with the involvement of seven Italian ministries.
On board will be 180 students from the Naval Academy of Livorno—young Italians learning to sail by gazing at the same coasts our emigrants crossed a century ago, often without a return ticket.
If you'll be in one of the cities… go!
For those who live in these cities, it's a rare opportunity. The Vespucci will be open to the public at each of her North American stops. Anyone who has seen her docked in a foreign port already knows what it means to gaze upon that bow, those masts, that flag. For many Italians abroad, it was an unexpectedly moving moment: finding themselves before a piece of home, amidst an ocean of life elsewhere.
