According to recent studies it food waste it costs each Italian 385 euros which translates into 8,65 million tons of food every year, 146 kilos per capita.
The regions of the South and families without children are the ones who waste the most. Among the most wasted foods, in descending order, are: fresh fruit, salad, bread e vegetables.
What is meant by food waste?
For "wasted food” means the set of pproducts discarded by the agri-food chain, for economic, aesthetic reasons or near expiry, even though they are still edible.
- food waste happens along the entire food supply chain, from the first industrial transformation (39%), to distribution (5%) up to final sale and domestic consumption (42%).
Huge waste for water too
Among the waste, there are also 140 billion liters of water, exactly 20% of fresh water consumption. A serious number, considering the drought of this period and one of the warmest (and driest) winters in recent years.
Eliminate food waste it would also lead to reducing thegreenhouse effect and from ensure of the resources we have at our disposal water, soil, energy, necessary for us, it is for these reasons that authorities around the world are energetically committed to finding a concrete solution to the problem.
