Why it is important to go see Snowden
"Snowden" is not a work of fiction. It is a spy story that really happened and in which every person in the world is somehow connected. We are talking about CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) and NSA (National Security Agency), so what is the connection with us? What is the connection with Italy? Simple. What Snowden did was to publicize the biggest conspiracy of any state to the rest of the world. It is a plot that includes each of us, no one excluded. The American National Security Agency has been spying on every phone call, every message on social media and every email from millions of people around the world. From the common person to the head of an allied government, no one was outside this network of control.
The facts
It was June 5, 2013. The British newspaper "Guardian" published the first article on one of the biggest scandals of the modern era. Former NSA consultant Edward Snowden carried evidence of the largest mass surveillance operation in history. All data traffic in the world was recorded and analyzed by the American government in contravention of any international law. In addition to this, the NSA had hidden programs in the networks of the allied countries. These programs would have literally allowed a country to "pull the plug" if it had not proved loyal to the US. Snowden is still wanted by US justice and lives in Russia as a political refugee.
The film
Written and directed by Oliver Stone, the film chronicles the life of Snowden, a heroic figure who if not real would seem like a Hollywood archetype. The director delves deeply into the life of the protagonist with recurring flash backs. These memories are intertwined with the present: a hotel room in Hong Kong where the meeting with the journalists of the “Guardian” takes place. The moments of tension are well balanced and give the film a fast pace. AND a good movie plus it's real. Furthermore, we are the co-stars.
