On the Wimbledon lawn, the first to leave an Italian mark was Jannik Sinner. In a final that bore no resemblance to the drama in Paris a month ago, the South Tyrolean accomplished the feat.
Sinner wins in comeback
Sinner came from behind to win, with the authority and maturity of a champion, displaying a brilliant and solid style of tennis that erased the hesitations he had shown at Roland Garros. Sinner relied on a powerful serve, winning 75% of first serve points—the same percentage as the Spaniard—but above all on his rediscovered athleticism and mental stamina. After 148 years of history, he is the first Italian to lift the most coveted trophy and conquer the grass of Church Road.
